The formula behind Casco Phil’s annual Summer Concerts has become well-known: in an informal open-air setting, the orchestra presents a surprising repertoire, featuring an equally surprising soloist.
This year, under the banner Baroque around the World, Casco Phil explores the rich and often unexpectedly fiery world of Baroque music. The central guest? Countertenor Pieter De Praetere, lending his unique voice to works by Handel, Purcell, and Hasse. Expect a sweeping panorama of the best Baroque opera has to offer – from melancholy to opulence, from fiery passion to sheer virtuosity. A few detours add extra spice to the summer evening: Corelli’s ‘La Folia’ gets a fresh twist, Saint-Saëns’ ‘Danse Macabre’ brings a theatrical wink, and the finale of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony will blow the roof off!
Figuratively speaking, of course – both concerts take place outdoors: one during Maanrock, Mechelen’s city festival, and one in the picturesque Sorghvliedtpark in Hoboken. Master of ceremonies Kurt Van Eeghem leads the audience through the music with contagious enthusiasm, sharing his love for the genre in his own inimitable way. Casco Phil’s Summer Concerts are the ideal way to fall in love with classical music!
