Naples is a metropolis that captures the imagination.

All the great Italian opera composers passed through: Rossini as director and Donizetti with several premieres. Domenico Cimarosa received his training and later rose to prominence there. But Bellini and Verdi are also strongly associated with the southern Italian port city.

Like no other, Kurt van Eeghem tells the musical story of Napoli. He is joined by soprano Graciela Morales (and on January 27 by soprano Lisa Willems) from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where the opera voices of tomorrow are preparing for glorious international careers.

Casco Phil and conductor Benjamin Haemhouts perform several sparkling overtures and some intimate interludes. These include arias from l’Elisir d’Amore, I Pagliacci, La Forza del Destino and, of course, La Traviata, Giuseppe Verdi’s famous opera.

As always, the last part of the concert consists of Viennese classics, including the Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, An der Schönen Blauen Donau and, of course, the Radetzky March.
